| ANOTHER RURAL PUB UNDER THREAT OF CLOSURE |
| Following news that the Fox at Lyde Green is under threat, the following
has been sent to Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council and Hart District
Council. |

THE FOX, LYDE GREEN, nr ROTHERWICK
To the Head of Planning.
I note in the 'Basingstoke Observer' of 27th May a report that a Mr Robin Terry is to demolish the Fox at Lyde Green, and intends to build a house for his retirement because he has 'had enough'.
I cannot trace any application that has been given planning consent for such wanton destruction of another rural pub.
If the owner takes this course without approval, can we have assurance that you would take the most severe enforcement action possible and that the owner would not subsequently be granted permission for building residential property without there first being a full and detailed assessment of the Fox as a viable commercial business.
Should the business be shown as having had potential, then we believe any destruction of a pub without permission should be dealt with by proper compensation and penalties, which should at least include re-instatement of the public house, even if that would mean rebuilding.
