CAMRA LocAle - April 2012 update: Overton Memorial Institute (The Stute) - This is a CAMRA initiative that promotes pub stocking locally-brewed
real ale. It was created in 2007 by CAMRA's Nottingham branch to help support
the tradition of brewing within Nottinghamshire following the demise of
local brewer Hardy and Hansons. Click here for full details, including an updated list of the participating pubs in North Hampshire.
ABOUT US - CAMRA is the Campaign for Real Ale - We are the North Hampshire branch
CAMRA is the only consumer group in the UK dedicated to preserving and
promoting traditional pubs, independent breweries and real ale. We campaign
for greater appreciation of traditional beers, ciders and perries as part
of our national heritage and culture. There are over 100,000 members in
the organisation. Find out more about CAMRA on the national website: www.CAMRA.org.uk
As part of the Wessex CAMRA region, the North Hampshire branch is run by volunteers that are elected by branch members. Our campaigning centres on the district surrounding the towns of Basingstoke and Andover.
We enjoy an active social and campaigning diary, with regular visits to
pubs, breweries and beer festivals throughout Hampshire and the neighbouring
counties. You will find an up-to-date branch diary on these pages and our
Facebook group
The role of the rural British pub as a cohesive centre of its community
has never been more important than it is today, and yet a record number
have ceased to trade in recent years. Here in North Hampshire, we have
actively campaigned over the years for greater protection for public houses.
Please visit our Campaigns page to find out more about the local and national issues that we have
been involved with.
We hold popular Beer Festivals in our area including the Hampshire Downs Beer Festival in Overton. We also reward the pubs and clubs in our area that are judged to maintain
excellent standards of beer, with Awards of Merit and the North Hampshire CAMRA Pub of the Year award.
If you would like to join us in protecting our traditional ales, ciders
and perries by campaigning and staffing our beer festivals, why not become a member of CAMRA today?

ABOUT REAL ALE ..... aka Cask Beers, Cask-Conditional Ales or Real Beer
In the early 1970s CAMRA coined the term 'Real Ale' to make it easy for people to differentiate between the bland processed beers being pushed by the big brewers and the traditional beers whose very existence was under threat.
Real ale is a natural product brewed using traditional ingredients and
left to mature in the cask from which it is served in the pub. There are
a huge range of different beer styles, each with different qualities, tastes
and strengths. For more information on real ale, how it is made, how to
keep it and serve it, different styles of beer, facts, figures and dietary
information, visit the About Ale section of our national website.
Stocking and serving real ale: There are many resources online and in CAMRA publications, such as the Cellarmanship guide, that can help you get started with serving real ale.
